Jemicy School hosted a festive winter holiday door decorating contest open to all advisory groups. Each advisory was assigned one of six door themes: “Penguin Party”, “Candy Cane Lane”, “Ice, Ice, Baby”, “Sweater Weather”, “Holiday Season Treats”, and “Cozy Cabin”. Each advisory based its door decoration designs on one of these themes, and the winner of each category received an invitation to a hot cocoa party on the Thursday before exams in the Community Room.
Check out the winners below:
Penguin Party (Mr. Tinker/Ms. Dimucci’s Advisory) – “For a bunch of kids with different brains, we were able to work together and make something positive.”Candy Cane Lane (Ms. Linardi) – A creative, chaotic, and full of festive eye candy for people to look at. People collaborated during lunch time and had input on the door’s final form.Ice, Ice, Baby (Mr. Macek) – “The door is all of my classmates’ baby photos and we decided to put them on skies since our theme was “Ice Ice Baby.”Sweater Weather (Ms. Gerardi) – “Our advisory was assigned the theme Sweater Weather. After researching ideas online, we chose to decorate our door as if it were wearing a holiday sweater. We found a picture online and tried to replicate it. The main part of our door is the body of the sweater and we used space on the sides of the door to attach sleeves. We also filled the bottom space of our door with pants. We liked that the pants are shorter than the sweater because we wanted to accentuate the sweater. We decorated the sweater with an elf, candy canes, bows, and stars.”Holiday Season Treats (Ms. Velazquez/Mr. Sisk) – “We knew we liked sweets, and one of us said, ‘wouldn’t the sweetest thing be putting baby photos of the advisees?’”Cozy Cabin (Mr. Groseclose/Dr. Stathes) – A creative and funny door with faces and decisions made by various personalities.
