The Jemicy Junior Varsity soccer team had many ups and downs during their fall season, including a shortage of players and a lot of new members. Both the Varsity and JV teams didn’t have enough players, and some Varsity players had to come down and play for the JV squad in their games. Furthermore, the JV team had never played with each other before the season and had to get used to each other. Once the team got into the swing of things, they started improving. History teacher, Mr. Groseclose, and English & Skills teacher, Mr. Diana had an amazing time coaching the team and said they would definitely do it again.

Mr. Groseclose, the assistant coach, said “JV soccer year was my first experience coaching.” He thoroughly enjoyed working with students outside of the classroom. One of the greatest moments in the season was their 2-1 win over St. Vincent Pallotti. After losing to them 6-0 in the first game of the season, the win showed how much the team had improved throughout the fall. “It was great to see the confidence and excitement of the squad after the win,” said junior Bryce Stewart, who joined the JV soccer team midway through the season. “I really enjoyed my time playing for the JV soccer team. It was like we were a family and the bonding and teamwork we had was outstanding,” Stewart said. Stewart’s favorite memory from the season was riding in the bus and hanging with Mr. Groseclose. “Everyone enjoyed the bus ride with Mr. Groseclose and so many memories were made on the bus,” Stewart said.
In the end, the JV team went 1-5; however, the scores were much closer towards the end of the season. As the team members got to know each other better, they became a more cohesive unit, learning each other’s personalities during daily practices. This will lay a foundation for the team to be even stronger next year.
