Keeping Your Eye On The Ball With Mr. Davis

When students think about Mr. Davis, the words nice, caring, passionate, and athletic come to mind. One moment that stands out in my mind is a game during last year’s baseball season: it was the final inning of the St. Frances game, and the score was 14-11 in Jemicy’s favor. There were two outs and the final batter hit a ball high in the sky. I remember the ball coming towards me; I was so nervous. The ball was getting closer and closer, and I put my arm out and caught the ball. The game was over, the whole team was full of excitement and happiness. I was so excited when I caught the ball, and I remember getting back to the bench. Mr. Davis looked at me with a big smile; he was so happy. I remember him just saying to me “That was an amazing catch, good job Jack.” I remember that day so clearly. The thing that made me most happy was seeing my coaches smiling. Mr. Davis stood out from the other coaches because he was always so excited for the team.

Mr. Davis has always had a passion for baseball, which he developed by playing and watching the sport. Mr. Davis said he “loves going to Oriole games at Camden Yards.”  Playing  baseball from a young age, Mr. Davis developed his skills until his  junior year of high school when he had a career ending injury. He tore his shoulder, an upsetting and devastating blow to his game. While Mr. Davis  still played some baseball, he could never completely return to the game.  Mr. Davis decided to channel his energy into his studies at Salisbury. His major in college was Communications , Journalism and Public relation. He had a fun college experience at Salisbury, and after his 4 years at college, he went into teaching.

Mr. Davis loved his high school history teacher, and that was who initially got him interested in teaching. Mr Davis said “my history teacher was so passionate and I could closely relate to him.” Mr. Davis was inspired by his history teacher’s passion and found a love of teaching. Mr. Davis taught for 2 years at a different school before coming to Jemicy. Mr. Davis has a family friend who went to Jemicy and told him that Jemicy was looking for a teacher. He applied and fortunately for us, he got the job. Mr. Davis has been teaching for 4 years. He is having a great time teaching at Jemicy, and said “I like the small environment at Jemicy.”

In spring of 2021 Jemicy formed a baseball team. Mr. Davis missed playing baseball and was so excited there would be a team. Mr. Davis said “I decided to join the baseball team because I wanted to help coach…with Mr. Epstein, Mr. Macek, Mr. Palmerino”. That year the baseball team did amazing for their first year. Mr. Davis had a fantastic time coaching baseball and learned more about his students at Jemicy. Mr. Davis is such a passionate teacher, and he is doing for Jemicy students what his history teacher did for him. I am happy I have a teacher that is always there for me and his family and friends.
