How can I tell someone I can’t be friends with them anymore?
Treat this situation like you would treat a breakup. Be gentle with them. Ask for some space, and if they ask why, be honest, but be as kind as possible with it. If that doesn’t work, be straight up with them.

If you want to tell him, then just tell him. The worst thing he can do is say no, and you could still be friends after that. Honestly, if he does, it’s his loss.
