Eli Greenwald is in his senior year here at Jemicy. He’s an artist, a scholar, and a true friend.
“He is good company and he builds an easy camaraderie with those around him. He is an intuitive listener who ingratiates himself to folks with self-deprecating humor and an affable disposition,” wrote Visual Arts Department Chair, Pauline Savage. “He’s democratic, engaging, quiet, bookish students and curmudgeonly teachers with the same enthusiasm he reserves for his best friends.”
Eli is known for being a very talented artist. His art speaks for itself.
“Eli’s artwork is experimental and quirky. His observations are cogent and his imagination is boundless. He packs his drawings full of ideas and he builds up textures on the page by layering marks,” according to Savage.
Here is one Greenwald’s personal favorites:

His peers are big fans of him as well.
Haley Palmer ‘21 wrote that Greenwald is a great classmate.
“Although I only have one class with Eli, he’s so laid back and chill. He’s so fun to be around and talk to. Eli is hilarious and I’m gonna miss that dude when I go off to college!”
Senior Meghan Gosse agrees.
“Eli’s very kind and chill. And he always has something funny to say.”
“Eli is intrinsically social. In middle school, he would wish the teachers Happy Birthday every day. I have heard him tell people he loves them just after meeting them. Eli lives to entertain. He has a jovial boldness that is contagious.” best friend and classmate Andrew Loviglio- Wolf wrote.
I can say that I agree with the consensus among peers. He’s been one of my best friends for the past four years. We’re both virtual this year, and he’s been one of the only people that I socialize with on a daily basis. He never fails to bring a smile to my face. He’s like a brother to me, and I’m so grateful that I’ve gotten to know him.
I had the chance to interview Eli through Snapchat on his time at Jemicy and what he’d like to do after graduation. Here’s what he had to write:
How’s your year going?
“Ehh not the best, but better than most people. So I guess I don’t really have anything to complain about.”
What were some of your hopes for this year?
To get into a good college, which I have achieved, to get good grades, which I have also achieved, and for Covid to be over, which is still in progress.”
What is your favorite memory here?
“In or outside of the regular school year?”
Both!
“I loved working at Camp Jemicy because everyone I worked with was so nice, and the kids were easy to get along with. I have a lot of favorite memories during the school year:
- Running for class president was fun (even though I didn’t get elected), and being class Vice President.
- Being with friends.
- I loved Mr. Farmer’s English class last year. He was very passionate about teaching and made sure you understood the material. He’d help you out if you were having a rough time. Not to mention he was just a really cool dude in general.
- Going to the plays was cool too!”
Who was your biggest inspiration in your time here?
“Ben Farmer [reasons listed above]”
What do you plan to do after graduation?
“Probably just lie in the middle of a field contemplating life.”
We can’t wait to see what Eli does in the future!
