The 2020 NFL Draft was one for the Ages

The 2020 NFL Draft was like none other.

A record 19.6 million people tuned into night one of the 2020 NFL Draft. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the NFL was forced to host the NFL Draft virtually.

All 32 teams could not attend the draft in Las Vegas, thus had to turn to drafting completely on the computer. Both the head coach and general manager of each team had a camera recording them during the 3-day event. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced every pick in the first, second and third rounds from his basement, instead of announcing just the first round in front of thousands of fans.

Arizona Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsberry’s extravagant house and New England Patriots HC Bill Belichek’s dog both provided notable diversions during a weekend had had its fair share of humor, online ribbing, and touching family moments broadcast from the homes of NFL executives and draftees alike.

A question mark before the draft was if players that have prior injury concerns would fall down team’s draft boards. Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa broke his hip this past season and did not drop in the draft and in fact was drafted to the Miami Dolphins with the 5th pick. But, former Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr, who underwent core muscle surgery a few months ago, fell to the middle of the 2nd round.

There were many stories and jokes during the draft. Kingsberry’s house and New England Patriots Belichek’s dog stole the show for sure.

Former Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb also had a funny instance during the draft. Each draftee that has a camera recording them also had at least one phone to contact ESPN about such cameras. Subsequently, most players had two phones and in this case so did Lamb. Lamb’s girlfriend took his phone and Lamb snatched it back from her and did not look happy.

LSU tied the record for most players drafted in one year and almost half the players that were drafted in the first round came from the Southeastern Conference.
